Other than to possibly resell or just to collect, I can't imagine wanting the gold or silver ones. They don't even look nice compared to the full painted ones. My understanding is they also are no different in game play. I'd much rather have two of each figure and have them upgraded on their different paths. That's the goal my 11 year old and I have set out on. The Legendary ones would be nice too, but not willing to pay what they are going for.
Still if you like the gold ones, I'll keep an eye out for them. I have 2 gamestop, 1 target, and 1 toys r us, employee all on the look out for my lists.

I do it just for my collection. Once my collection is done, and I re-arrange my room to dedicate an entire wall to my collection, I will be showing my final collection photos.
I will be buying whatever these Skylanders Bobble Stylus' are as well.
I am this game's super-fan, as others have put it, so I got to stick to it. I really like this game that much. That's why I got the golds and silvers.
They do nothing ingame. They're their normal color ingame. But, to me, they make my collection look better in my eyes.

"Super-Fan" - I Love It!
Well, where as I do not share your desire for the gold or silver ones, I do understand the love of the game and the collecting. I know I want 2 of each figure, so I'll keep an eye out for gold or silver ones and let you know if I find them, we can make a trade or something. I wouldn't mind having the Legendary ones because of their cool paint jobs.
I'm working on a Stealth Elf right now for the girlfriend for Valentines day. She's a bit of a "Princess" so she thought the elf should be a blond and wear pink - LOL - So, I'm trying my hand and intricate figure painting! - I'll post pics if it's successful.

I actually prefer the gold flameslinger as opposed to the painted one. I am also a fan of that character so it didnt hurt matters. Now, if they do something special with Hex, I am all over that. Her figure just rocks and I like Drow. All dark and mysterious.

Apparently I just missed a Gold Drill Sgt. by about 30 mins today at one of the Targets up the road from me. Not to worried about owning one myself but they make good trading fodder if I can find one at retail. Otherwise like Paul said above the Gold/Silver don't do much for me.
I'd be more apt to by the figures if they came base white to allow for personal painting. I'm a little hesitant to start doing much custom work to my figures until they are more plentiful. Stealth Elf singles are non-existent around here and I dont want to drop money every time for a 3 pack which seems to be becoming a bit more commonplace.

V and I have been pretty patient about just waiting to find them in stores (to no avail), but there are still a couple that we'd just eBay and pretend we didn't see the price tag on.
V wants a full set of special edition dragons. That's going to be a rough period for us financially, but secretly, we both think it's worth it.
For me, it's Stealth Elf and Ignitor, without a doubt. Others I'd love are Prism Break, and the actually-released Dino Rang and Drill Sergeant.

What does she mean by special edition Dragons?
Is there something coming out that I don't know of?

Bash has already been shown in crystal blue. With the way they are releasing several special edition characters per wave, it stands to reason that all single packs will eventually have rare variations. It's not official yet, but it would make no sense for them not to.

I'm not so sure if every single pack char will get a variant?
There are 3 silvers and 3 golds. Will there be only 3 translucents or do the gentle readers envisage that is translucent was the only formally pre-announced variant, they will produce more characters in it?

What about the starter pack figures, wont they team up with the other 4 and strike until they get their own specialness?

Maybe they introduced the special version Skylanders to decrease painting times. It takes a lot longer to paint a Flameslinger by hand than to spray it silver or gold. At least for the silver ones, seeing as how there's like 10.000 of each character right?

I hear more along the lines of 50-100 of each gold Skylander in the world.
I got my single pack gold Flameslinger coming. I can now say I am done, until the next - and hopefully final - wave hits.

I honestly don't think that there is only 50-100 of each gold char out there.
We have seen so many sold already and unless Activision truly think that the world ends at the North American borders, I am sure we will see more when wave 3 trickles through to the rest of the world.

Like when wave 3 arrives on australian shores on February 6th in Queensland?
