These are the results of the latest PVP tournament V and I ran in the Wii version of Skylanders. We used a seeded bracket format, winner advances. If a build differs from the norm, I'll list it.
Arena: Mushroom Grove
ROUND 1:
Trigger Happy vs Stealth Elf
Winner: Stealth Elf
Not even close. Trigger Happy has no way to keep Stealth Elf at bay, and the fight was over in a matter of seconds.
Eruptor vs Ghost Roaster
Winner: Eruptor
Ghost Roaster had no way of getting close to Eruptor without enduring massive damage. The fight ended up not being close.
Zap vs Flameslinger (Marksman)
Winner: Zap
Zap played keep-away the entire battle using slime trails and ranged attacks. The fight was incredibly close (within 20 HP), and easily could have gone either way. After a long bout, Zap edges a victory.
Stump Smash (nut) vs L. Bash (roll)
Winner: L.Bash
A hard-fought victory for L. Bash, who was plagued by seedlings, nuts, meganut shielding, and melee for the entirety of the battle. Eventually, Bash's rolls persevered, but the result of this one is anything but a guarantee. Stump Smash loses for lack of spike damage, but it's close.
L. Spyro (charge) vs Drill Sergeant
Winner: Drill Sergeant
Even with nerfed Wii version charges, Drill Sergeant dominates charging Spyro with total ease. Spyro's stun threatened to make this a close bout, but constant Auto Blaster spam and supplementary drill rockets proved the difference between the two charging characters.
Drobot vs L.Chop Chop (blade)
Winner: Drobot
This one was never going to be competitive.
Hex vs Prism Break
Winner: Prism Break
Prism Break handles Hex with ease and moves on. Skull Rain and bone shields prove no match for the golem's crystal rain and laser reflection.
Boomer vs Voodood
Winner: Boomer
Voodood found himself juggled by troll bombs and dynamite; his natural weakness to Tech proves too much to overcome. Boomer takes this one without much trouble.
Sonic Boom vs Ignitor
Winner: Ignitor
Ignitor burns Sonic Boom to cinders in less than a minute. Flame soul barrage forces her close, and mortars finish her off.
Whirlwind vs Gillgrunt
Winner: Whirlwind
Whirlwind plays keep-away, using Gill Grunt's medium range to her advantage. Her electric grid stops him from getting close enough to use his water cannon effectively, and he succumbs after a long battle.
Chop Chop (shield) vs Terrafin
Winner: Terrafin
Terrafin initially tries melee, to disastrous effects. Switches to underground mode, peppers Chop Chop with sharks, and uses the Body Slam to claim what was actually an easy victory after the tactic swap.
Bash (tail) vs D. Spyro (fire)
Winner: Bash
Bash dominates. Spyro was completely outclassed, and could not stop Bash from rolling in and smacking his health down. Over quickly.
Dino Rang vs. Wrecking Ball
Winner: Dino Rang
Dino Rang continues to prove why he is an underrated and deadly opponent. The usual Dino Rang tactic (hide, send boomerangs, lure close, destroy with boomerang shield) proves too much for Wrecking Ball, who has no choice but to get close.
ROUND 2
Stealth Elf vs Eruptor
Winner: Eruptor
Eruptor uses huge Wii-version natural advantage against melee characters to score an easy win here.
Zap vs L. Bash (roll)
Winner: L. Bash
Zap's slime trails slow down L. Bash and, slowly, almost kill him. Zap can't hold out forever, though, and is felled by a tail swipe after a surprisingly close match.
Drill Sergeant vs Drobot
Winner: Drill Sergeant
Drill Sergeant pulls out a shocker. Auto Blaster constantly interrupts Afterburners, stopping Drobot's escape. The close quarters of Mushroom Grove prove his undoing; however, Drill Sergeant ends the fight having sustained heavy damage.
Prism Break vs Boomer
Winner: Prism Break
Another favorable matchup for Prism Break yields another easy win. Boomer was simply outclassed in this one.
Ignitor vs Whirlwind
Winner: Ignitor
Over about as quickly as Ignitor vs. Sonic Boom. The current Air Skylanders just don't do well against him.
Bash (tail) vs Dino Rang
Winner: Dino Rang
Dino Rang does what he does best: Destroys Bash. Over almost immediately.
Terrafin vs Hex
Winner: Terrafin
Terrafin needed an opponent due to odd numbers, so we fished in the Skylander bin and out came Hex. After a very close fight, the body slam is the difference.
ROUND 3
Eruptor vs L. Bash
Winner: Eruptor
Eruptor melts Bash, who, like Stealth Elf, can't fight from far away, and is fodder rolling through Eruptor's volcano of doom.
Drill Sergeant vs Prism Break
Winner: Prism Break
Drill Sergeant just can't do enough damage quickly enough to stop Prism Break from beating him. Auto Blaster is neutered by crystals, and charging attempts are met by Prism Break's crystal shield. Not a favorable match for Drill Sergeant.
Ignitor vs Dino Rang
Winner: Ignitor
Both characters use the same tactic, but since flame souls are stronger remote-controlled ranged attacks, Dino Rang is the one who's forced to come in close. Mortars finish the job.
Terrafin vs Stealth Elf
Winner: Stealth Elf
Terrafin needed another opponent from the bin, but this time, it didn't work out as well for him.
ROUND 4
Eruptor vs Prism Break
Winner: Prism Break
A very close match, but Eruptor's first difficult fight is also his undoing. Prism Break's defensive-offensive style, combined with the fact that the two travel at about the same speed, allows him to keep barely enough distance to win.
Ignitor vs Stealth Elf
Winner: Stealth Elf
The usual Stealth Elf versus Ignitor formula. A foregone conclusion. Sad to see Ignitor's run come to an end at the hands of a previously-defeated character, but our tournament style necessitates even numbers.
Final Round
Prism Break vs Stealth Elf
Winner: Stealth Elf
Stealth Elf flips through Prism Break's defenses and shreds him in a very anticlimactic final fight.
Winner of Competition: The character vs. character table we're working on, lawlz. We were able to add a lot of valuable data!
Bonus Eruptor testing:
Eruptor vs. Ignitor:
Winner: Eruptor
Eruptor charges in and makes short work of Ignitor. Mortars are no match for Eruption.
Drill Sergeant vs. Eruptor:
Winner: Eruptor
Drill Sergeant tries to play keep-away and win with Auto Blaster and Drill Rockets, but proves unsuccessful due to the length of the fight and Eruptor's massive spike damage.
Eruptor vs. Drobot:
Winner: Eruptor
Afterburners easy interruption and the cramped arena of Mushroom Grove are why Eruptor won, but it doesn't change the result. Drobot would likely win on a wider arena.
If anyone else has tournament results to post, I'd love to hear your stories.
