How about adding areas to the board to discuss new skylanders products:
GIANTS
Battlegrounds (the upcoming iOS game)
the other two iOS games
Possibly the 3ds game?
the books? (if anyone cares about them)

I agree, it's time for a little bit of a redesign. I will try to get those in this week.
I'm curious about the new iOS games. I haven't read anything about them yet.

I'm heading out of town for Thanksgiving and won't have much in the way of internet access. However, send me a PM and we can talk!

Will do. I've ran proboards before. It isn't my favourite forum software (phpbb is better, IMO, or something kin to that) but I'm at least familiar with it to some extent.
If this is aiming to be a somewhat die-hard Skylanders forum, is there a way to purchase a domain and space to kind of have our own real spot to it? That might up traffic and interest in whatever, along with some general organization practices.
There are really NO greatly active Skylanders forums, aside of the boards on darkspyro. But Skylanders gets a lot of hate there so I'd love to see a site flourish just for them that gets some attention or other. Because weeding through "Stoopid Skylo" posts from flamers gets annoying >_<;;

I hear ya, I would love to see a well-run dedicated Skylanders site. I originally started this forum because I didn't want to be stuck in some of the childishness that goes on over at DS. We had some momentum for a little bit, but then it really ran out.
I personally find myself at a Skylanders crossroads. I love the idea of the game, particularly the PVP aspect. However, I don't have anyone locally that is all that into it. Even my kids are kind of meh when I bring home a new character. Today I had my first chance to buy Hot Head (since I'm in a different town) and I ultimately passed on it.
The other factor that has really slowed me down is the cost associated with the game. I figure whoever is going to run an "expert" site had better have all the goods, and I just can't afford to be that guy. I wouldn't mind being a contributor, but that's about all I could be.
What kind of financial commitment would it take to have a legit Skylanders site?

We'd have to look into hosting plans and find a starter package that we can grow into. But firstly would be choosing a domain of some kind. I checked skylands.com but that was taken. Even having a completely free hosting (with a real domain) and erecting some kind of temporary web page that any of us can add to would bump up interest.
So first we'd need to buy us a domain name to brand us with. It needs to be easy to remember and skylanders related.

It would be nice to see a true Skylanders site come about. More for the adult audience. The Dark Spyro pages are helpful, but too many children over there and too many whining adults as well. I for one sold off my entire collection after collecting all of the figures for the first game. I simply got tired of it all, lack of stock, people getting so annoyed with Activision or eBay, about things that companies and people do to make money. As time went on my 12 year old became more and more involved with the game, so we resumed playing it until the new one came out (we still had his collection). We have every figure released so far, and he and I play regularly. I find the new game to have been overall easier to complete story mode, but I really enjoy the leveling up of the characters, the arena battles, the rank challenges, and the new heroic challenges.
If you guys can get an actual Skylanders site up and going, I'm in for whatever help I might be able to ad. As Yaggleberry knows, I love to photos. I also rarely have any trouble getting the new figures. I guess living in Atlanta, and so many locations to buy from around here. Yangleberry you mentioned the cost associated with the game, I can certainly understand that, it is quite expensive if you wish to have each and every figure. Perhaps you and I can work something out if it comes to you wanting to be an "expert" on each figures stats, powers, etc... Maybe we kind of start a "library" system of Skylanders and you can check them out, and return them by the due date....

Well running a website that will extensively cover all Skylanders and become THE Skylanders fansite will take more than one person's work, so I suggest the owner think about scraping up as much manpower as they can get to do this, if that's the direction we're heading in here. We'll still be "competing" with DarkSpyro on some level, but our vision will be more focused. And I don't think we should limit it to a more adult view as that would limit our viewers/members. Skylanders is marketed towards a younger audience to begin with.
I still firstly think we need a name, a website name. Skylanders related, easy to remember. Then can come the fun stuff of putting it together. But until we have a place to put it together AT we're up a creek with no paddle. XD

I'll help out some too, if you get a site going.
I'm fine with this site right here, but a better name might be good.
How about these:
Portalmasters coreoflight lairofkaos skyland skylands

Coreoflight.com and Lairofkaos.com are open. The rest are taken already.
And really? I think this forum could use some majour improvement, especially with organization and activity. And there are much better forum software out there for foruming on.

Coreoflight.com and Lairofkaos.com are open. What do you think? DO you guys like those names? Obviously there should be a lot more activity in a decent forum, and better software would be fine, too. Attracting the users is the issue more than the software though. Banner ads? How do we get them to come here?

I may be in the minority here, but I think a great name is of less significance than a great site. If you're a fan of pokemon, you're probably familiar with PMC (pokemon.marriland.com) which doesn't have a very impressive name. But the content is excellent, even among lots of pokemon sites.
I understand the priority of the name, however, since you need that before you can actually register the domain and get started. So here are my thoughts on a name...
It needs to encompass the bigger picture of Skylanders and not anything that is confined to one game. Therefore I think coreoflight is out. Also, as an aside, when I type it like that it kind of looks like "core o flight" or "coreo flight" ... my mind wants to put the f with the word light =)
Also, with lairofkaos, it's no guarantee that Kaos will always be the bad guy. However, if he is, that gives a great character to build the site around. There's a color scheme there, some custom fan art can be generated for a logo, etc... so I might be on board with something around his character.
I was thinking about something along those lines earlier this morning, except with Master Eon. He seems to be a mainstay at this point, even showing up in mobile apps. In that case the site could be built around him and named after him. (Well, mastereon.com is taken!)
I think the site would have a very different feel if it were built around either Kaos or Eon. Taking it even further, how about building the site around Glumshanks? I know he's more of a fringe character, but it looks like he will be the standard Kaos sidekick as long as Kaos is still around. And at this point, perhaps Kaos is a mainstay.
We already have someone who is a big Glumshanks fan! The site I mentioned earlier is built around a fairly obscure pokemon... I think it could work.
What do the rest of you think?

Had to stop what I was doing here at work because my mind is starting to work on this new site idea...
I think a comprehensive site would also work well if you had enough staff people to manage particular aspects of the game. I myself would love to be in charge of a PVP section as well as doing character reviews/critiques. I'm not sure what other areas there would be, although I was also thinking someone covering mobile apps would be helpful.
I agree with glumshanksgirl that more man power is needed. The faithful few here could be a great starting team!
