I saw it in the store and wasn't very impressed. I didn't particularly like the need to purchase something I normally never buy, but the chance of not getting the one you want combined with the long wait just didn't convince me to participate.

I thought the actual toys looked pretty cool, and always like extra characdters that follow around in games. Photo of them: You're right though, its a lot of hoops to jump through to get them, but then, that has been the whole skylanders collecting experience.

Some people who have access to them, should maybe go through the trouble of getting multiple sets, ya know, just for.... fun?/other non-applicable members.

Yeah, if someone is able to maintain multiples of these, I would be willing to buy them off ya! Otherwise, I will just wait until I can purchase them for a reasonable price off of your typical shopping sites.

there is supposedly a limit of 4 per household, so basically 1 of each character per family.
That will make these extra hard to get because lots of people get multiples for multiple kids and that won't even be possible.

3 sidekicks showed up in the mail last night! (Whisper Elf, Gill Runt, & Terrabite)
Mini review:
TOY The figures look great and should be part of any skylanders toy collection. The 3 characters look great with their bigger counterparts, sort of like children or nephews of the full sized characters. When I first saw these, I thought they were supposed to be the same characters, but from looking at the figures and watching the gameplay, its clear that there are slight differences.
Only complaint: The paint on a couple of ours were a little sloppy.
PACKAGING They came individually in padded envelopes with a "thank you" note from Frito Lay. They did NOT come with a sealed plastic bag, instruction sheet, or web code, as I had seen in photos online from some product convention. If the sidekicks web codes I saw online are real, those codes could be one of the rarest skylanders collectibles out there.
GAMEPLAY My daughter and I tried playing with them in SSA on the Wii.
When the portal activates them, there is a new "symbol" next to their name, like an animal's paw, instead of the usual flower-pot looking symbol next to magic items. Maybe the paw is a new symbol for pets or sidekicks, but they were used just like a magic item in the game and can not be used along with the dragonfly or any of the other items.
It was fun seeing Stealthelf running around with Whisper elf, Gill Grunt with Gill Runt and Terrafin with Terrabite. The little sidekicks ran circles around the screen sometimes getting lost of falling off of cliffs, Gill Grunt was able to shoot his sidekick with water and knock him across the screen.
If your skylander swims, the sidekick will walk over the surface of the water to keep up with them.
The down side is they don't do much else. They don't seem to fight or give their skylander any kind of in game stat boost. So, they are really there more for fun than anything useful
One other curiosity: Whisper Elf has bright purple hair in the game, but the toy and advertising art make her hair look just like stealth elf. Interesting discrepancy.
I'm curious what they will do in the 3ds version or in Giants. (I hope they do something new in Giants)

I think they are a waste because they are so hard toget and nothing but follow you around.
