Dan Amrich (OneofSwords) tweeted this screen shot from his iPad ( t.co/eHyJUcKN) which shows that Cloud Patrol is now the third ranked app in the app store. Not too shabby! It is also apparent that Dan is not a big Angry Birds fan ;D

Hopefully it stays up in the top ranked list for awhile. I like the competitiveness of the highscores so the more people playing the better! ^_^

Just another example of the Skylanders craze the world is in

Part of the craze, to be sure. But the game itself is pretty fun. If it was only about Skylanders, the 3DS game would be more popular. I haven't even been able to force myself to finish that one...

True, the concept of the game and it's appeal bring you in, but the quality of the game is what makes it last. I'm sure a few of the initial downloads of this iOS game were maybe out of "SKYLANDERS OMG WANTWANTWANT", but making it to the Top 3 was probably helped a lot by word of mouth, dontcha think?

I'm sure word of mouth helped it out, as did the name recognition. I did notice that it was listed as the featured app of the day for a while, so Activision probably put some money forth to make that happen. I think a big selling point is the fact that it's only 99 cents, even for the iPad. Even standard iPad apps are generally 2.99, let alone fancy pants ones that are closer to $10 or more.
There's a tradeoff somewhere between raising the price but selling fewer units... I'm glad they went this route. They adopted the "buy more stuff inside the game" but made it too expensive, and not really worth it anyway. If I buy gems with money, then much of the game playing is pointless. There's something to be said for having some achievements to work towards rather than just having it all handed to you.

And this is one of my biggest issues with plenty of games these days, thank you for putting it into words
