When I first got Terrafin, he was one of my favorites. I loved that he could swim underground and take zero damage. He grabbed a spot in the top tier and looked to be there to dominate. Since more characters have joined him at the top, I've found him to be severely lacking and disappointing.
He's just not fast enough underground to get around against several of his opponents. On top of that, his belly flop is nice with a 65 damage hit, but then he's left in range of melee characters that can hit for as much or more. And if you upgrade to his soul gem (which we have not) then bounce pads and teleporters will pull him out of the ground, giving him another liability.
In our next round of PVP, we'll pit him against everyone in the top tier and see how he fares. I already know one character that absolutely drives Terrafin bananas: Cynder. Those ghosts she leaves behind will jump on him, even underground. If you thought he swam slowly before, get ready to move in super slow motion!

I actually completely agree with you, if Terrafin is played fair. Using him solely as an underground shark shooter is a different story, but that really falls under the realm of cheap tactics for me, honestly. It's no different than Stealth Elf flipping away to recharge health at 5 a tick for several minutes if ever she is in danger. He can't be stopped from doing it... but it's there.
Personally, though, I'm with you. As I don't like long, drawn-out, cheap fights, my go-to Earth champion has slowly become Dino Rang instead of Terrafin.

Actually, he can be stopped from doing it because you can dodge the sharks and pop him in the head when he is forced to surface. The problem is keeping him from grabbing the loot. Stealth Elf is much worse in this regard since she is among the fastest and does not need items or water to regenerate (especially brutal on matches with items turned off).
Personally, I like having the pads and teleporters pop him out of Burrow. Maybe that's just me.
I can see this guy going down compared to some other dedicated melee toons, though.
