And it clears up one of the challenges I've seen regarding online multiplayer. Simply put, if there even is a way to play my Wii version against your PS3 version, how would Drill Sergeant work? Crazy fast charging PS3 style, or super lame weaksauce Wii style? There has to be consistency between the systems. Why worry about that when each console has their own proprietary online world? Granted, it would be nice if one could, but why bother? There are enough people with same console versions to have an online co-op or battle arena for the same console.

Yeah, as much as I would love universal online so everyone can play everyone, it probably won't happen for a long long time, unfortunately. But morph is right, there is enough people per console so you wouldn't have to search for someone to play with too hard I don't think I will be getting any of the rereleases then. I understand the collectibility of it, but i can't justify buying them when they are the same characters I already have.

There are enough people with same console versions to have an online co-op or battle arena for the same console. Why? Only because it fits in with how they promote Skylanders in the first place: play with your friends no matter what console they have. I won't be bothered if I can only play against other Wii owners online.

It's impossible to have online capability between the different console systems, they're not built to recognize other systems.

The message packets sent/received could be the same so there is no technical reason why it would not work.
However, either one console has to act as the master and do much more work or Activision needs to create servers to connect to.
It would be more likely to be the latter so that involves infrastructure and expenditure.
