So I'm not sure how many of you are into the Mass Effect games, but recently it was announced that EA Games will be releasing figurines based off of some of your squad mates in-game. These figurines will be packaged with exclusive DLC codes that will have some form of benefit in-game.
It may not be exactly like Skylanders, but it has similar ideas, and Skylanders may have inspired this idea, depending on how long the Mass Effect DLC figurines were in development.

I'm a huge Mass Effect Junkie from back with the original game. I'm not totally surprised given the recent trends with DLC and the success now of Skylanders. So long as its nothing significant and stays like bonus weapons or armor upgrades I'm fine with it. I would have likely picked up something like a Garrus or Jack figure anyways.

www.gamespot.com/news/mass-effect-3-toys-to-feature-dlc-retail-radar-6349124Here's one of many stories on the matter. Reading through the comments, it appears not too many people are happy about this. I must say, at $20 a pop I'm not too thrilled. I want the DLC, not the figure. As far as packaging codes with figures, Skylanders might have started that... however, I remember the Fable 3 book including codes for different weapons, the Dr. Pepper codes for ME2, and even the Saints Row the Third strategy guide came with a new suit, gun and vehicle.

Buying other junk to get in game bonuses isnt something new. Its certainly not something started by Skylanders. If the codes are just for the multiplayer aspect however I'll be less inclined to care. The Kinect feature however I'm stoked about.

Yeah, the pack in codes is nothing new for sure, but packing it in with figures seemed similar enough to warrant a mention. I wouldn't mind if more games were to do this, preferably not much more than $20 for one figure though.

Personally I feel $20 bucks it to much. The figures don't look that good to me given the images I've seen and the codes are slated from what I heard to be for the multi-player only. If it was for the actual game and not just the crappy co-op add on I might be for willing to shell out more. I'm already plunking down for the Collector's Edition. If they want be to buy overpriced figures I need more incentive.

Kinectimals have stuffed toys with a tag you scan for DLC and that was released a fair while ago (earlier version of the game, sans bears).

Because the label of "Now with BEARS!" really brings people rushing to buy a product. >_<

If the bears had machine guns strapped to their backs and double as spaceships, I would be all in.
